Chief Scientist Openet

Alan McNamee

Alan McNamee is the Chief Scientist for Openet, one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned software companies.

He has been with Openet since its foundation and has been involved in all aspects of the company’s development into being one of the world’s leading suppliers for charging and policy management solutions. As Chief Scientist he supervises all aspects of Openet research initiatives. This includes heading up Openet’s IP Office with responsibility for leading the team that manages Openet’s IPR portfolio and ideation process.

Alan also oversees the Openet Labs group, a group that is responsible for driving the innovation agenda within Openet so that we can help our customers evolve to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving telecommunications market. He also heads up Openet’s standardisation activities and directs the company delegations in the IETF, 3GPP, ETSI, IPDR.org, and TM forums.

He specialized in data communications. His research interests include subscriber engagement, evolved PCC and M2M adoption and he has been granted multiple patents in these areas. His interest in predictive analytics is tied to Openet analytics platform: Openet have developed a flexible analytics solution capable of serving the needs of service providers across a diverse set of scenarios. These include subscriber care based scenarios such as analysing customer behaviour, optimising revenue generation opportunities, determining customer experience and reducing churn. Network centric scenarios with a particular focus on Network Function Virtualisation enable predictive and automated scaling, fault management, optimisation and real time network monitoring. Alan holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from UCD.
